More and more young Swiss hockey talents are migrating to the North American junior leagues because they see a greater chance of a professional career. Players often rely fully on the professional career card, without any security and preparation to start their professional life after their sporting career.
"I wish The Hockey Academy had been there when I started my journey to become a hockey pro."
Lino Martschini, EVZ-NL-player
Success needs more than talent and will - The Hockey Academy creates optimal conditions for the way to the top
The Hockey Academy is a training concept that is unique in Switzerland and enables athletes to combine sport, education and career in the best possible way. It can be compared with an apprenticeship with a commercial orientation or a sports high school - adapted to the needs of athletes. The focus is on the best sporting training with outstanding trainers and supervisors, ideal training structures, optimal support around the clock, which also includes a solid basic vocational training for later. Since 2020, The Hockey Academy has been working with its training partner OYM College, which is located directly at the OYM Centre of Excellence for Athletics and Research in Cham.
The OYM College offers a suitable training program for all levels of education. The training courses follow the federal guidelines and regulations.
In addition to athletic, professional and educational skills, social skills are also to be promoted in order to provide the athletes with an ideal basis for the future. Depending on age and level of performance, The Hockey Academy athletes - like all other EVZ junior players - have the opportunity to play in the U-17 elite, U-20 elite, EVZ Academy (Swiss League) or in the 1st team.
