"I'm impressed with The Hockey Academy, the top talents who only have sport in their minds and offer the ideal combination of sport, school and job."
For the former EVZ junior and long-standing Zug ancestral lawyer, it was a matter of course that he was accepted as ambassador. But the former NHL player does not only want to help the Hockey Academy with his name, but also wants to actively participate in the project work.
On the first official school day of the first class of The Hockey Academy, he introduced himself and his Academy thoughts to the athletes personally.
"I want to get to know the young players personally, share my experiences with them and encourage them to follow the same path as me," explains Rafael Diaz. He can also well imagine working as an Academy trainer one day.
"I am impressed with the professionalism and attitude of the young Hockey Academy athletes and I am convinced that this educational model will produce many top ice hockey players."
The EVZ is proud to have won the best Finnish ice hockey player of all time as ambassador for the Hockey Academy. Selänne visited his childhood friend Waltteri Immonen in Zug and wanted to take a look behind the scenes of the Hockey Academy. The 45-year-old Finn was so fascinated by the EVZ training project that he volunteered as Academy ambassador: "I am impressed with the professionalism and attitude of the young Hockey Academy athletes and I am convinced that this educational model will produce many top ice hockey players".
Selänne played 21 seasons in the NHL and scored 1545 scorer points in 1539 games. With his 138 scorer points for Winnipeg in the 1992/92 season, he still holds the rookie record, which will probably never be surpassed again.
